The origins of Nind Dairy Services, a core provider to the Southland and Otago dairy industry, lie in Nind Electrical Services founded in 1977. Today throughout the Nind Group, a 130-strong team of registered electricians, fitters, plumbers, and engineers combine to deliver highly sophisticated, bespoke dairy solutions.
In the early days the focus was on dairy conversions. Nowadays their turnkey solutions are more likely to be up-dates or to cater for the increasing demand for feed pads and wintering barns.
Tristan Whitaker, Head of Effluent and Plumbing Design and Sales has been around the industry for a fair while. It was as an electrician working on dairy farm projects that he first became aware of Prime Pump’s brands. He said they worked well and the partnership grew from there. “We use a lot of Prime Pump pumps for effluent treatment.”
Nind Dairy Services’ projects can be substantial and, with some clients winter milking, there are significant demands on their time. It’s the same for the pumps which are often operating long hours, regulated by the Nind Dairy Services control systems. Set-ups range from a single pump and stirrer to up to nine pumps and three stirrers – all dedicated to keeping the farms working smoothly and in compliance with environmental regulations.
Tristan says clients are always interested in new and better ways to do things and to upgrade or expand. “Dairy farmers are early adopters and technologically aware, they want to minimise risks to staff and the environment and anything that we can do to help – we will.”
Nind Dairy Services have deployed Fagiolatti, LJM, Varisco, Alpha Pompe, and Wangen pumps, depending on the requirements of an individual project. Tristan says Prime Pump’s range is one of their strengths. “We’re not here just to sell pumps, we build systems around clients’ specific problems and needs.”
Tristan has been impressed by Prime Pump’s service. “Ben (Petrie) is amazing and he’s backed-up by Cameron and Allen, so there’s always someone to get things sorted when you need it. We can get pumps here in two days. And every pump comes with a bag of lollies, so it’s all good!”
