Apex Environmental are industry leaders in wastewater treatment overseeing all aspects from the design and consenting through to the build, installation and commissioning.
In-house expertise is one of the things that sets Apex Environmental apart, with founding Directors Dr. Matt Savage and Dr. Steve Kroening having extensive local and international experience gained working throughout Europe, Asia and the Pacific.
A recent project was for a Canterbury-based pet food company looking to improve its resource consent compliance. The consultant hired by the company to evaluate their options, selected Apex Environmental’s biological wastewater treatment design as the best fit for the task. Steve Kroening says as part of the procurement for the project, two 7.5kW Dargang side channel blowers from Prime Pump were chosen.
The side channel blowers are used to aerate the two 30,000 litre capacity wastewater tanks. Steve Kroening says this is key to the Apex Environmental approach. “It gives the bacteria a source of oxygen so it degrades the organic matter to reduce the load. The two tanks run on a sequence, which we program in.” This includes periods when the wastewater is aerated and times when it is not, along with settling time. The meticulously researched and controlled process differs depending on the nature of the wastewater. “We do biological modeling before we build and run tests to confirm the outcome.”
Steve says the Dargang blowers are getting the job done. “They’re ticking over like they should.” The company had purchased blowers from Prime Pump previously and Steve says they will also look to them in the future for pumps.
Tony Hylands from Prime Pump says the Dargang blowers are a good quality product with a very simple design which makes them virtually maintenance-free and low-cost to operate. “They can be used as vacuum or pressure pumps and, in addition to wastewater treatment, you’ll also find them used for anything from powder transfer and aerating tanks on fish farms.”
