Frequently Asked Questions

What is the purpose of a concrete washdown system?

A concrete washdown system is used on construction sites to safely capture slurry and washwater from cleaning concrete truck chutes, wheelbarrows, shovels, and other tools used during concrete pours. These portable units prevent high-pH wastewater from entering stormwater systems and support environmental compliance on site. By containing solids and managing water reuse, concrete washdown units help keep your site cleaner, safer, and more efficient.

What is a washdown procedure?

A washout procedure typically includes:

  • Rinsing tools, equipment, or truck chutes into the washdown unit
  • Capturing concrete residue in a filter or settlement tank
  • Managing or treating the water before reuse or safe disposal

There are two parts to our system:

  1. The CW01 separates solids and silt by filtering water through a purpose-built bag.
  2. This water is then pumped to a pH correction unit (CT01) for chemical treatment to lower the pH, allowing it to be reused for washing down the chute and tools from the next truck pour.

The CW01 can handle up to 50 chute washdowns before the filter bag needs replacing.

The washout water can be recycled indefinitely until you are ready to relocate the system to the next project or another area on site. The CT01 includes an in-built safeguard that prevents accidental discharge of high-pH water into the receiving environment. Once the required pH level is reached, the water can be discharged in line with the terms of your discharge consent.

This routine helps reduce contamination risk and supports on-site water recyclng. View the unboxing video here.

What is the standard washout period?

Washouts should be completed immediately after concrete use. Trucks are typically washed out on-site following a pour, and again at the end of a shift if needed. Timely washouts prevent concrete from hardening and help avoid damage to equipment.

When should I use a concrete washout?

Use a washout system whenever rinsing concrete from tools, equipment, truck chutes, or pumps. While the concrete inside the truck will not harden as long as the mixer is revolving, it’s essential to wash down the chute and any external tools used during the pour. The system is designed to help you manage and track compliance with discharge consents.

How big is a concrete washout system?

The Envirohub Concrete Washdown System is comprised two units: the CW01, where washout goes for separation of solids and wastewater. The CW01 is approximately 1.5 m long, 1.2 m wide, and 1.4 m high fully extended. It holds up to 375 litres of washwater and 0.5 cubic metres of solids. The solids are held in a removable filtration bag (big enough for up to 50 concrete truck chute washes). The second part of the system is the CT01 - the pH correction and recycling unit. With a 1m3 capacity, washout water is pumped to this unit and the pH neutralised to a point where the washout water can be re-used to wash down your next set of tools and chutes.
